Work at the Institute
The Karl Landsteiner Institute for cardiac and vascular surgical research was founded by the Karl Landsteiner Society at the beginning of 2005 and set up at the Cardiac and vascular surgical department at Hietzing hospital. Prim.Prof.Dr.Martin Grabenwöger was appointed as director, and Dr.Johann Georg Meinhart as his deputy. The Institute’s function is to conduct and encourage research, professional training, in-service further training and clinical quality control in the field of cardiac and vascular surgery. The close collaboration with and physical proximity to the Hietzing Cardiac and vascular surgical department ensures that the research results have a direct effect on the improvement of patient care.
